The annual Duck Race organised by our friends in the Kidderminster Lions Club took place in the town on Easter Monday (April 6th) and again attracted large crowds to take part and cheer on the participants.
The sun was shining as families enjoyed the spectacle with good trade brought to businesses on the day.
Kidderminster Lions Club President Ron Cross expressed his sincere thanks to all who came and volunteered to make a safe and enjoyable event.
Bewdley Mayor Nicole Harper said: “I was delighted to be entrusted with firing the cannon to start the Bewdley duck race and to award prizes to the two winners.
The Duck Race has become a very large logistical event which the Lions Club could not provide without families and friends and the help of other organisations freely giving their time.
Colin Hill, official photographer and Lions Club member thanked all who had helped including the Rotary Club of Bewdley who provided the marshals for the bridge to keep everyone safe. The canoe clubs of Wyre Forest and Stourbridge for collecting the ducks to stop them from going down stream and polluting the River Severn and the Severn Area Rescue Association who provided water safety cover.
The day raised £2,800 for the Lions’ charities and good causes with over 900 ducks being entered in the race.
