July is the month when the new Rotary year commences and Clubs traditionally change their President, an office which is held for 12 months. At our Handover meeting on 2nd July President Phil handed the Chain of Office over to President Graham.

Graham previously held the office of President during 2020/2021, the year when the Covid epidemic upheaval was at its worst, and skilfully kept the Club together and in good shape to continue when normality returned. Graham said he was looking forward to a less traumatic year this time around.

Tony Smith (Secretary), Terry Garbett (President elect) and Rod Crawford (Treasurer) will be the leadership team supporting Graham through his year in office.

President Graham’s first official duty was to award a Paul Harris Fellowship to retiring President Phil. This is the highest award that a Rotary Club can make in recognition of outstanding service which in Phil’s case was for his fundraising efforts for the Club, particularly the £5000 raised for the, soon to take place, PSA testing session and the £9000 raised through the Santa Sleigh.

Phil knew nothing about the receipt of the award and, for once, did not know what to say.

Our entertainment for the evening, organised by Terry, was provided by the ‘Starlight Singers’, a group of friends who are members of the local Operatic Societies, who performed well known pieces from several memorable musicals.
