At Bewdley Rotary Club, we are proud to have fully funded a Prostate Cancer Screening Event in partnership with the Worcestershire Prostate Cancer Support Group on 18th July at The Bewdley Pines. This important community initiative aimed to raise awareness of prostate cancer and encourage early detection by offering PSA blood testing for 250 individuals aged 40 and over.

Prostate cancer is now one of the most common cancers affecting men in the UK. When detected early, treatment is often more successful, making regular screening an important step in protecting your health. The PSA blood test is a simple procedure carried out by qualified healthcare professionals and can help identify men who may require further investigation.

As a Rotary Club, we are committed to serving our community and supporting initiatives that improve health and wellbeing. By funding this screening event, we hope to encourage more men to take a proactive approach to their health and potentially identify problems before symptoms develop.

We are delighted to support this event and make this potentially life-saving service available to our local community.

DATA from the PSA Testing Session

The PSA results from the above event are as follows.

239 of the 250 who had initially booked were tested. 11 failed to show which is about the norm for events that we have previously conducted across the county.

185 in the Green zone
26 in the Amber zone
28 in the Red Zone

Green – result is within normal range for men. They will be advised to have a repeat test 1, 2, 3 years

Amber- just above the maximum Green limit. Recommend to contact their Doctor for a follow-up test.

Red – This is abnormal and outside the guideline range for a man of your age. It does not necessarily imply there is anything seriously wrong with your Prostate gland but you are strongly advised to see your Doctor
